robert stroup

back to robert’s work

robert grew up on his grandfather’s ranch in the badlands of south dakota. his childhood was spent with the lakota indians who worked on the ranch.  learning their customs and the subtleties of their personal expressions robert has captured the essence of these unique native americans in his sculpture.

remaining fairly aloof, artist robert stroup lives outside of deadwood south dakota where he creates his “buffalo people.”  each one is sculptured of prairie clay from the historic badlands and made made even more unique with different glazes giving each character its own personality.
