I have always loved paintings, so when I wanted to take the moment in life that I had captured with my photography to another level. I decided to create paintings that where very traditional with an abstract flair, so the heavy pallet knife on canvas became my choice.
The pallet knife was a tool that appeared in 1899 at the Cape Cod School of Art and was introduced as a system of study for students of plain air to see and feel their subjects by painting the color masses. Thus, the "palette knife" was forever a part of the artist’s paint box.
Enhancing on the idea of feeling through color I decided to see and feel through shadows and light. My favorite photography style is B&W because I believe that a really good picture must stand on its own and not hide behind the color. You can remove the color from a photograph and if it falls apart it really wasn’t that good after all, but if it gets better then you have something take to the next step. With experience one will lean to convert from color in your mind and you begin to imagine in black and white. Having developed this for my photography the transition was quite easy. The mind of the artist is never satisfied so of course the final step was to start producing my work in color also.
